Who: Desiree Luckey is the founder of Des Eats DC. A current 1L student at Georgetown University Law Center, Desiree has spent the past five years in DC as an undergrad at Howard University and young professional. Born in Connecticut, she moved to Peoria, IL at the age of (almost) nine. In her leisure time, she likes to ride the metro, tweet, shop, tackle social justice issues, and paint.
WOW IT’S WEIRD TO DISCUSS MYSELF IN 3rd PERSON.
What: A food blog, chronicling the adventures of a 20-something in discovering DC restaurants, preparing my own recipes, and exploring food’s greater role in society and culture. What else is my B.A. in Sociology good for?
When: The journey began upon arriving all “wide-eyed Bambi watching her mother get shot” in the BIG CITY. Yes, DC being the largest place I’ve lived makes it the “big city” for me. I fell in love with the wide variety of food options there are in such a multicultural place. Ever since 2008, I’ve spent the majority of my time sampling new restaurants and trying my own recipes. In 2013, I decided it was time to launch a blog to tell the world about my finds.
Where: Washington, DC, obviously. Though as the blog grows, I will post some places in Maryland and Virginia, as well as special feature reviews from my travels.
Why: I love law but I hope, one day post-law school, to pursue a PhD in Food Studies at NYU. I want to have a body of work that shows my ongoing dedication and passion for food, whether it be reviews, recipes, policy, justice, or photography. No matter the issue, if it’s related to food, it’s relevant to me.
